Roche’s Itovebi Moves Closer to Public Access in Canada

  • Roche Canada successfully completed pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA) negotiations for Itovebi (inavolisib), marking a key step toward public reimbursement across Canadian provinces and territories.
  • Itovebi, in combination with palbociclib and fulvestrant, is indicated for adults with PIK3CA-mutated, HR-positive, HER2-negative locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer that has recurred on or after adjuvant endocrine therapy.
  • Clinical data showed the Itovebi-based regimen more than doubled median progression-free survival, extending it to 15 months versus 7.3 months with palbociclib and fulvestrant alone.
  • The pCPA agreement follows a positive CDA-AMC reimbursement recommendation and Ontario FAST program funding, with Roche now working with other jurisdictions to expand public access for eligible patients nationwide.

Takeaways:

Roche’s pCPA win for Itovebi is a major reimbursement de-risking event in Canada, because it moves the drug much closer to broad public coverage after a positive CDA-AMC recommendation and Ontario FAST funding. The main market implication is faster uptake in eligible PIK3CA-mutated HR-positive/HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer patients, since provinces and territories can now align behind a negotiated price rather than negotiating separately.
