Novo Nordisk Canada Expands Ozempic Savings Program

  • Novo Nordisk Canada announced that beginning May 29, 2026, eligible uninsured Canadians choosing Ozempic (semaglutide injection) will pay reduced out-of-pocket costs aligned with generic semaglutide alternatives.
  • The updated savings initiative is aimed at Canadians without public or private drug coverage and will be accessible through savings cards available via Ozempic.ca, participating pharmacies, Novo Nordisk Care Rx operated by Rexall, and select telehealth and retail partners outside Quebec.
  • Novo Nordisk stated that Ozempic has maintained a stable supply across Canada since its approval in 2018, with more than one million Canadians currently using semaglutide therapies.
  • The company said the expanded affordability program is intended to help patients and healthcare providers continue treatment with the branded Ozempic therapy while improving access amid growing competition from newly launched generic semaglutide products in Canada.

Takeaways:

Novo Nordisk is defending branded Ozempic’s market share by narrowing the price gap with generic semaglutide for uninsured Canadians. That should help reduce switching to lower-cost alternatives and support continued use of the branded product as competition intensifies.
