Novartis Expands Health Equity Initiative in Canada with Focus on Women’s Health

  • Novartis has launched the third edition of its Health Equity Initiative in Canada, committing an additional $250,000 toward community-led projects aimed at reducing healthcare inequities, bringing the program’s total investment to $1.45M since 2024
  • The 2026 initiative will specifically focus on women and gender-diverse people, supporting organizations working to improve access to timely diagnosis, respectful care, and essential health services while addressing broader social determinants of health
  • Since its launch, the program has supported projects focused on mental health, Indigenous health, newcomer access to care, and housing-related health barriers, with past recipients including The Olive Branch of Hope, Hamilton Health Sciences, and Moms Against Racism Canada
  • Marjorie Michel, Canada’s Federal Health Minister, praised the initiative for helping strengthen a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system, while Novartis Canada invited eligible non-profit and charitable organizations to apply for the 2026 funding round before June 19, 2026

Takeaways

Novartis is using this initiative to deepen its positioning as a “health equity partner” to government and community groups in Canada, with a fresher focus on women and gender‑diverse people that aligns well with current policy and public expectations.

The extra 250,000 dollars is small in absolute terms but keeps the program visible, sustains relationships with frontline organizations (from mental health to Indigenous and newcomer health), and can help Novartis build trust, local insights, and reputational capital that ultimately support its brand and market access discussions across therapeutic franchises.
