Sobi’s Empaveli Wins Positive CDA Reimbursement Recommendation

  • Sobi’s Empaveli (pegcetacoplan) received a positive CDA reimbursement recommendation for C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) and primary IC-MPGN, paving the way for public drug plan coverage in Canada.
  • Empaveli is the first therapy approved in Canada for these rare kidney diseases, helping reduce proteinuria in patients aged 12 years and older.
  • The recommendation is supported by the Phase III VALIANT trial, which showed reduced proteinuria, stabilized kidney function, and clearance of C3 deposits.
  • The decision advances the therapy to pCPA reimbursement negotiations, bringing patients with these high-risk kidney diseases closer to broader treatment access.

Takeaways

Sobi’s Empaveli is now positioned to move from import‑only, limited‑access status into publicly funded, pan‑Canadian treatment for C3 glomerulopathy and primary IC‑MPGN, one of the first kidney disease therapies with a formal reimbursement pathway in Canada.
