Sanofi to Make Nuvaxovid Available Across 10 Canadian Provinces and Yukon for 2026–2027 Season

  • Sanofi Canada will make Nuvaxovid, a protein-based, non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, available across all 10 provinces and Yukon for the 2026–2027 respiratory season through public programs and most private insurers.
  • The vaccine offers Canadians an additional option alongside mRNA vaccines, supporting vaccination choices based on individual preferences and healthcare provider recommendations. It is indicated for individuals aged 12 and older.
  • Nuvaxovid demonstrated approximately 90% efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19 in pivotal Phase III clinical trials and has shown a favourable tolerability profile for seasonal vaccination.
  • Its expanded availability comes amid continued COVID-19 burden in Canada, including more than 120,000 reported cases, 33,500 hospitalizations, and 2,300 deaths during the 2024–2025 respiratory season.

Takeaways:

Nuvaxovid’s availability across 10 provinces and Yukon strengthens Sanofi’s position in Canada’s seasonal COVID-19 vaccine market by expanding access to a protein-based, non-mRNA alternative. Its established technology platform may appeal to Canadians seeking vaccine choice, including immunocompromised populations. Uptake will depend on public program access, provider recommendations and competition from mRNA vaccines.
